Manual Handling and
Falls Assessment Training

 

 

Key Trainer Course

5 days

 

The course will take place in a four day block with a follow up day

 

Course Aims

  1. To equip participants with the skills to work as key trainers in their clinical area.
  2. To develop individual course participant’s skills in correct handling and safe movement techniques.
  3. To examine the current legal requirements and the various guidelines that are pertinent to their role as key trainers.
  4. To give participants the skills and knowledge to understand the risk assessment process in relation to manual handling.
  5. To improve awareness of health and safety with particular reference to the extent of back pain injury and back pain.
  6. To enable participants to set up monitoring and recording systems and act on the results.
  7. To assist staff members to achieve the laid out competencies relating to manual handling.
  8. To enable participants to operationalise the appropriate policies and procedures relating to manual handling in their organisation.

 

  • During the course participants will be expected to carry out manual handling risk assessments.
  • They will also need to write an assignment on an area of practice they would like to see improved in relation to manual handling in their clinical area. This will need to be presented to the group on the last day of the course.
  • There will be a written test that will take place on day four. This will form part of the course assessment process.
  • There is formal structured assessment of the participants’ practical manual handling techniques. These will be assessed on the last day of the course.
